Veridia Round 8: Family Portraits

I decided to do these at the end of each winter. :) Also, fair warning, this post got lonnnnng.



Right before I made the last set of family portraits, I made the mistake of calling Norweni and her wife drama-free, and then next round Norweni immediately blew up her relationship by falling for then-newcomer Maddan of Wyll. Diseta divorced her and moved out of the household. Since then, Norweni has stumbled her way through a few situationships and may or may not still be pining for her ex-wife.

At her old friend Vee's request, Norweni brought Prince Cadwgan to foster in Veridia in hopes he would lose interest in joining the Watcher's priesthood. Cadwgan and Sun had an enemies-to-lovers speedrun; Sun is pregnant with their 'surprise' baby, and they are betrothed and impatiently awaiting their wedding.

Senovara and Cináed are both teenagers and pushing boundaries in their own ways. Senna lives full-time with Norweni, as she dislikes both the disruption of moving and the noise of the smithy. Cináed has been roped into helping Diseta at the smithy and will likely start living with her full-time as well in the spring.

As for the pets, Faun died peacefully of old age, and Norweni adopted wolf-dog Grendal from Elmet Hill.




Fial and Dinn lost their eldest son, Kinet, at the beginning of winter to a previously asymptomatic heart problem, and everyone is still reeling from the loss. Aífe is grieving but attempting to be strong for her and Kinet's daughters, Sabren and Liona.

Faro is nearly an adult (and spent a lot of time the last few rounds catching colds). Along with mourning his brother, he's feeling the weight of taking on Kinet's responsibilities around the farm. His true passion is music, and he used to fancy becoming a traveling bard, but he's prepared to step up and take on more work on the farm instead.




Eisu and Xiang are both elders now. Xiang occasionally tutors some of the children in town. Their daughter Jia will also become an adult next round, and has been training more seriously with the town guard. After nursing a secret crush on her best friend Sun for years, she finally confessed and was quite thoroughly turned down.

Xiuying has found adolescence a little bit confusing, but she's doing her best. When she's not helping Eisu on the farm, she's usually spending time with her friends, including her bestie Senovara.

Mouse has run away twice and is currently missing. :'( In between that, he fathered a small litter of kittens with neighbor cat Daisy, producing Ash and Salmon. Ash temporarily joined Mouse in the household, but they fought so much that he went back to live with Daisy.




Eldest child Drustan has been quite busy. He had a brief tryst with Orla of Wyll that, unbeknownst to him, produced a child. At his fathers' suggestion, he traveled out of Abona to the isle of Thessos to study at their famous library. He made quite a few friends on Thessos—including fellow scholar Chen Zhi, accidentally conceiving baby Una with her during their friends-with-benefits relationship. He is currently heading home to Veridia with Una.




Wulfric Salter drowned after an incident on the boat with his son, Glamaer, though the only ones who know the truth of it are Glamaer, his wife Enna… and perhaps Wulfric's ghost.

Brigid continues to be Brigid, though becoming a widow seems to have tempered her fighting instincts. She is often at odds with Glamaer and still manages to start arguments with his sister Gytha, despite Gytha's best attempts at avoiding her.

Gwendolen is a bright child who prefers solitude to the chaos of her household, though she has also spent a lot of time at the blacksmith lately. She's friends with the smith's son Cináed and rather fascinated by the process of smithing, so you know, two birds, one stone.

Enna left her position with Norweni and Diseta when she became an adult, wedding Glamaer. She's the one who's really running this ship, keeping the household in relative order and helping Glam with the shop. They have two children, Eamon and Meria, and are currently expecting a third.




After Diseta's divorce, she found herself leaning more on her friend Shep, and then falling for her too. Their relationship is quite comfortable and sweet, though lately Diseta has been thinking about whether Shep would ever agree to marry her. She doesn't have much time to dwell on it, though, between managing the smithy and three rambunctious teenage children. She also adopted a new cat, Salmon, after Lu passed on. Except I forgot to put Salmon in the picture.

Shep is quite content with both her relationship and her work; she supplies the town with honey, mead, and beer, as well as pottery. Gytha Hill (née Salter) apprenticed with her and now works with her, making and selling the pottery. She has also adopted a stray cat named Colm.




Helenet and Elmet have added three children in quick succession to their family, Lune, Fiona, and baby Faolán. Eldest child Angus moved out a few season ago, an adult with his own family and work now.

Arturo has also integrated into the household and will readily admit that he's become rather domestic. He enjoys cooking now that he can eat again, and loves to tutor the children (even if some of them are less than thrilled at lesson time *coughLunecough*). He has also finally broken his curse entirely after an encounter with the forest's local fae, but the encounter has left him very wary of further interference in his life or his lovers' lives by the fae.

Also, there are a lot of wolves in this household. Let me think… Willow and Snow were adopted in and had a litter of four puppies, who went to Orla, Norweni, and Wulfraed. The last puppy, Toast, belongs to Lune.






Angus and Gytha are happily married. They welcomed their first child, Aedan, during a winter snowstorm, and are already expecting again. They also have two cats, Daisy and her son Ash.

Angus has mostly taken over the village healer role from his mother, who is focused more on midwifery again, and he has a small shop next to their home.




Orla and Maddan both came from Wyll, sent away by their magical families as a plan B of sorts when war was threatening Wyll's borders. Married at first, after a string of affairs on both sides they decided to amicably divorce, though they currently still live together while co-parenting their daughter Bel. It's totally not weird at all.

Orla had a fling with Drustan Hill and gave birth to their son, Duncan. She'd like more children, but is taking her time starting another relationship. She has adopted a variety of animals and is also giving basic magic lessons to the magically inclined children in town.

Maddan became the most hated character in town had an affair with Headwoman Norweni, broke up with her when she found out he avoided taking responsibility for his first child, and has maybe caught feelings for Brigid Salter. He's also a part of the village guard.




River also came from Wyll with their friend Orla and a few others. They established their own household and eventually fell for Myr, another newcomer from Wyll. They have one child so far, Rowan, who mostly takes after his mother.

Myr works in the local market. Her little brother Acca is training to become a warrior, and their grandmother Ælfwyn mostly putters around enjoying herself. This is definitely currently my lowest drama household.




Derelei escaped towniehood moved in with her sister Brigid Salter for a while, helping the household after the death of Wulfric. After breaking up with Shep a while ago, she briefly dated River Farseer, then unexpectedly found herself falling for her old friend Cian (who also happens to be Aífe's father). They quickly married, and Derelei finally gave birth to her first child, Bran. Gráinne, Cian's mother, lived with them for a while but died soon after the birth of her grandson.

In Veridia’s second year, there were…

- 5 marriages (Kinet and Aífe, Gytha and Angus, Enna and Glamaer, River and Myr, Derelei and Cian), plus one current engagement (Cadwgan and Sun)
- 2 divorces (Diseta and Norweni, Orla and Maddan)
- 11 babies born, including Una
- 9 new residents from outside the village (River, Orla, Maddan, Ælfwyn, Myr, Acca, Wulfraed, Kara, and Prince Cadwgan)
- 6 townies turned playable (Derelei, Ælfwyn, Myr, Acca, Cian, Gráinne)
- and 3 deaths (Wulfric Salter, Gráinne, and Kinet Seax)
