Because I hate consistency, the next interlude will actually be in the middle of Norweni's round (but still posted separately as an interlude), so her round will be in multiple posts. Interlude squared. Just an fyi!
That tracks. Mornings in Norweni's hall are very quiet when the children are with Diseta instead of running around underfoot. Except for once or twice while she was traveling, Norweni has never spent this much time alone. It's... different.
Grendel is proving herself to be a very clever dog—errrr, wolf.
Though when Norweni takes her into the woods, Grendel finds squirrels and Norweni finds that poison ivy that must've been imported to fake!Britain with that caffeinated plant and the magic birth control.
Maddan seems to have moved past Norweni questioning his marriage, or at least they've both decided to ignore that it happened and not bring it up again. Whatever, either works, I guess.
Norweni: Sun, I was getting ready to make supper. Do you want to come in to eat?
Sun: That depends on what you're cooking.
Norweni: Sandwiches.
Sun: Okay!
Maddan doesn't stay long, but Norweni is more than happy to listen to Sun chatter over their meal instead. Her eldest is becoming a bright, kind, outgoing young woman, and she feels lucky to get to see it.
Since she's doing so well with her training, Grendel gets to go around the village with Norweni now.
Norweni often plays riverstones with Kinet's oldest daughter, Sabren. She's quite sharp for a girl her age and is always coming up with new game strategies to keep people on their toes.
Speaking of Kinet, Norweni meets up with her nephew later for supper. Grendel, you've definitely been fed.
Kinet: I think people have started to trust my abilities more. No one's asked if you could come fix something instead for quite a while!
Norweni: Everyone's gotten used to you taking care of things around the village too. It just takes time and confidence. But you can get some real practice in soon; I'm planning on traveling up the coast for a week or so soon.
Kinet: Oh dear.
Norweni: Just make sure nothing's on fire when I get back and it'll be fine.
Norweni: I wonder how Drustan is doing out there.
Eisu: Well enough, I think. Arturo actually enchanted these two crystals for us so that when you tap one in a certain pattern, the other one glows until you do the same thing. So at least we know he's alive and not in too much trouble, hah!
Norweni: Clever. I didn't know magic could do that.
Eisu: Apparently it takes a lot of effort, so most witches can't do it on their own. Orla or your Maddan has probably heard of them, though.
Norweni: He's not mine. Speaking of Orla, though, I suppose Drustan will have quite a surprise whenever he gets back.
Eisu: Yeah... that's not really something you can communicate through magic light crystal, unfortunately.
Norweni: Sun, come here a moment.
Sun: What now?
Norweni: None of that, please. I wanted to tell you that I'm going to be away from the village for a week or so. You and the twins will stay here with Diseta a little longer, but I'll give you the key so that you can access the hall if you need to.
Sun: Oh?
Norweni: Kinet will be coming by to keep an eye on things and make sure no teenage mischief is happening.
Sun: Oh. Where are you going?
Norweni: I'm accompanying the warriors taking the village tithe.
Sun: But why? You don't normally go, Uncle Kinet does.
Norweni: I used to, actually, some years before you were born. Maccus's seat is too far for me to be comfortable going when you all were small, but the queen is in residence near Evervale this year and the journey's a sight shorter than usual.
Sun: Really? Could I come with you? I've never been anywhere like that before.
Norweni: Not this year, child. But next year, if you still want to, I'll take you then. I'll bring you all back something nice, alright?
Sun: *sigh* Sure, fine.
