Norweni has been, uh, busy between rounds.
It was never Norweni’s intention to catch feelings for Maddan of Wyll. She certainly never intended to act on it when she realized. It never went past heated kisses, but...
It’s been a long time since she’s been around other warriors; real warriors, not village women and men like Kinet who know how to fight but have never been in battle. It built an instant kind of familiarity between her and Maddan, makes it easy to be around him in a way that she doesn’t feel with most people. She doesn’t feel the need to be be on all the time around him, to act as a title instead of a person.
The feeling in her chest is some tangle of satisfaction and guilt; it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
Anyway, surely what Diseta doesn’t know can’t hurt her.

Diseta: Why d'you think people are always fighting at weddings?
Norweni: Alcohol.

Diseta’s wants panel looked like this when I opened the household. 😭

Diseta brought Sun to the market to pick up her new dress and met another one of the newcomers, Myr.
Diseta: I run the smithy next door. I hear you’re a merchant as well?
Myr: Trying to be! It was hard to get a foot in the door back in Wyll, with the magic families running so much of the market.

Diseta: Well, good luck! Come by the smithy sometime and I can give you a special discount on anything you need for your new home.
Myr: That’s generous of you. I might take you up on it!

Good to see the local fuckboys making friends.

Sun comes to help out at the smithy sometimes, and by help, I mean, tell jokes to the customers.

Glamaer often comes by at lunchtime—he has a short walk from the corner! Enna wants to know if he’s thought about her suggestion at all, but he’s evasive about it, so she lets it go for the time being.

Norweni: Upsy-daisy!
Cináed: Wheeeee!

Oh, I haven’t seen this interaction in years.
Senovara: M-m-muuummy! *wails*

Norweni: There, there, you’re fine, my brave little girl. Alright now?
Senovara: *sniffle* Yah.

Birthday time for the twins! 🥳

I don’t have much to say about the twins; they’re just kind of there. Fighting with each other. I wouldn’t mind more of this, actually, it’s been yonks since I’ve had a good, hate-fuelled sibling rivalry in my game.

Diseta: Now that the twins are grown a little bit, what do you think about having another baby?
Norweni: Absolutely not.
Diseta: Okay. It was worth a shot!

That guilty feeling is a little squirmier when Diseta snuggles up against her back in bed at night.
It’s fine. It’s not like she’s planning to kiss Maddan again or anything.

Thief: Don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious...

The smithy is, shockingly, starting to turn a real profit.

I think???

Hi, Wulfraed! I hope you’ll be less of a dickhead than our current redheaded Wulf.
Wulfraed: I just want to buy a lantern. :(

You know, Diseta and Maddan have a lot in common. For example, they both think Diseta’s wife is really hot.

Norweni: Well, Enna, with the children growing up and your own birthday coming before long, I suppose you’ll be leaving us soon.
Enna: Yes. Once Glam and I are both of age this summer, we want to marry straight away.
Norweni: I’m glad you like Veridia enough to stay.
Enna: It’s nice here. And I’ve made some good friends.

Norweni: Here. Diseta and I wanted to give you this.
Enna: Oooh, that’s a lot of coins...
Norweni: Consider it a bonus for your excellent service. To help you start out the next part of your life.
Enna: Thank you, Ms. Norweni!

Maddan comes by to drink a cup of mead with Norweni, and the topic turns to Veridia itself.
Maddan: You know, Veridia could be a much larger town than it is. You have an easily defensible position, good soil, fishing, the quarry and mine. You should try to recruit more residents; people would come.

Norweni: And why should I do that?
Maddan: Wealth.
Norweni: We have your people now. Seems like plenty.

Maddan: But there’s so much space to grow. You aren’t using the land to its full potential.
Norweni: There are old, old ruins in the woods. People say they’re cursed. They don’t like to touch them.
Maddan: Surely you don’t believe that.
Norweni: I think I might. I’ve met strange creatures who live in these woods.

Maddan: These creatures didn’t happen to have antlers, green eyes, and an appetite for curses, did they?
Norweni: So you’ve met our local fae. I’m surprised Arturo showed himself to you; he is... reticent.
Maddan: He didn’t like me trying to talk to Helenet.

Norweni: That explains it. He’s protective of her. Of her husband too. But you see, I have no idea what lives in there beyond Arturo, and I’m not inclined to send in settlers to find out.

Norweni: Maddan, the other night...
Maddan: Let me guess: it was a mistake.
Norweni: Well, yes.
Maddan: I feel people only say that when they believe they’re supposed to regret something.
Maybe he’s right, but regardless, it can’t happen again.

girl...

Norweni is attempting to instill a sense of discipline in her younger children though lessons in physical activity. Senovara is easily distracted, though.

Senovara prefers weaving to running around outside, which is very funny to me considering her mothers. (Fial must’ve taught her. If Norweni ever knew how to weave, she has deliberately forgotten.)

Enna likes to look at all the pretty fabrics at the market and daydream while she’s waiting for Glamaer. She’ll need a nicer dress for their wedding soon, after all.

Sun: For my birthday, I would like a honey cake.
Norweni: Certainly.
Sun: And a small party. Just Jia and a few other people.
Norweni: That’s fine.
Sun: And a pony–
Norweni: No.

Diseta: Myr, hi! I would shake hands but, uhhh. *gestures* I’ve been at the forge.
Myr: You look like you’ve been busy!
Diseta: Want to come in for some lunch? Let me just wash up.

I like Myr’s nose. It’s a very good nose, if I say so myself.

Enna has been noticeably discontent while cleaning and taking care of the house this round. Maybe it’s knowing that she’s so close to not having to toil away for someone else. (Of course, then she’ll have to deal with Brigid, but I guess she’ll cross that bridge when she gets to it.)

That night, a thief strikes Veridia again–a horse thief, no less. (The music didn’t play for whatever reason, so I only noticed when Enna woke up and he was skedaddling.)

Norweni: My horse? Really?! Cerunnos’ balls, he’s probably halfway to Drossburh by now.
Enna: I’m sorry, Ms. Norweni, I didn’t get a good look at his face.
Norweni: Don’t apologize, Enna, it’s not your fault. *sigh* I’m tired, I’m going to deal with this in the morning.

Fortune sim Enna is actually more upset than anyone else in the household. :(

Senovara: Waaaaaaaait! Wait for me!

While Enna rounds the children up and takes them to the market to buy ingredients for Sun’s cake, Eisu and Xiang drop by to visit.
Eisu: Your horse? Really?
Norweni: That’s exactly what I said.
Xiang: Hm. Bold.
Norweni: I’ll send notice to some of the nearby towns, but I doubt we’ll see Dandelion again. I hope Sun names the next one something less... cutesy.
Eisu: Aw, I liked it.

Sun has an early party, so the family can all go to the festival square this evening.

Random wolf: S'cuse me, comin’ through.

Sun grew into a Popularity/Family sim. Genuinely think she’s the prettiest sim my game’s ever made.

Jia: Ugh, I can’t wait for my birthday too. No fair that you get to go first!
Sun: It’s just a few more weeks!

Sun: Hey!!!
Enna: And that is the power of an eldest sister. You must experience it at least once to use it wisely.
Sun: Pfffft.

The whole household (minus the pets) heads out at dusk to visit the spring festival. I was right, the bonfire looks loads better at night.

While the grown-ups dance and drink, the twins entertain themselves with fishslapping.

Diseta: Norweni, tell our child that I’m a blacksmith, not a silversmith.
Norweni: She’s not a silversmith, Sun.
Sun: All I said was it would be neat if you could make us, like, bracelets and stuff.

Speaking of jewelry...
Sun: Mum, could I have a beaded necklace like yours? It's really pretty.
Norweni: Mm. Yes, if you show me you’re responsible enough. I’m not gonna throw a strand of expensive beads at a thirteen-year-old as a bribe like Wulfric.
Sun: And how do I do that?
Norweni: Oh, that’s the fun part. It’s up to you to figure out how to demonstrate that.
Sun: Hmmm...

I don’t think this is what your mother was talking about.

Diseta: Sun, be nice to your little brother.
Sun: But Mam, I was just—
Diseta: Not gonna tell you twice.

Sun is here ostensibly to help Diseta with sales. In reality it’s to feed her Popularity sim need to meet new people.

Sun: You don’t like horses? Who doesn’t like horses?!
Maddan: People who’ve been kicked by them too many times.

That’s absurd. Sun doesn’t trust anyone who doesn’t like horses. (Modern day Sun would be a horse girl who wants to grow up to become an influencer. I feel this in my bones.)

Norweni: That’s a terrible joke.
Maddan: Why does everyone always tell me that?
Norweni: Here’s a dirty joke. Three men are on a boat going downstream, and the first one says...

Maddan: I don’t get it.
Norweni: You’re hopeless. I think you might’ve been born without a sense of humor.

The problem with her... feelings toward Maddan is there’s a clear solution. The clear solution is to stop talking to him except when necessary, stop spending time with him. But Norweni likes doing those things, even outside of the... kissing thing. There’s only been a handful of people in her life that feel like they understand her without her always having to explain herself. Eisu was always one; Maddan is another now. Even Diseta, sometimes, she feels this disconnect from, like she’s one step out of beat.

Enna absolutely knows what’s going on, but she’s paid exactly enough to not care.

After a few rounds of being the perfect live-in servant, she is rebelling and I love that for her, lmao.

Glamaer: Are you sure they won’t mind us being up here?
Enna: Nah. If Norweni complains, I have blackmail.
Glamaer: Oh, uh... good?

Wow, this bed’s getting a lot of use today.

Unfortunately, this is the point where Norweni’s conscience gets the better of her.
Norweni: Diseta, wait. I want to tell you something.
Diseta: Huh? What’s up?

Norweni: So, uh... I think I want to fuck Maddan.
Diseta: Excuse me?!
Norweni: Maddan of Wyll. Just the once, to get it out of my system, and then everything can go back to normal—

Diseta: I know who he is! I don't—are you asking me for permission to cheat on me?
Norweni: I’d let you fuck another woman if you asked.
Diseta: I’m not you! Spirits, I can’t believe you’re telling me this. What the fuck! I thought you loved me.
Norweni: I do—

Diseta: I thought he was just one of your friends. He’s been in our house! How long has this been going on?
Norweni: ...

Diseta: Oh, so you’re not asking me for permission, you want me to, what, condone whatever you’ve already done?
Norweni: It’s not like that—if you would listen to me—

Diseta: Whatever. Go do whatever you want, Norweni. Isn’t that what you’ve done your whole life?

Norweni: This is why Fial calls you a dumbass sometimes.

At least the children are blissfully unaware of their parents’ marital woes!

Enna: Everyone’s missing my soup.

There’s no cowplants in this setting. Also: dark.

Diseta was too mad to stay in the house, and her angry stomping eventually leads her to the mead hall, where I’m sure alcohol will fix EVERYTHING.
Diseta: Did you know about this?! Did she tell you? She tells you everything else.
Eisu: Uh, I’m confused about why you’re yelling at me, but I assume Wenna did something.

Diseta: Hmph. Maybe you should go ask her, I wanna know what excuse she’ll come up with.
Eisu: Clearly it was upsetting. D'you want to come and sleep at our house tonight?
Diseta: No.

Luckily Shep is outside and happy to listen to Diseta rant. She is shocked and appalled.

They also encounter Myr while buying some drinks—
Myr: You look upset.
Diseta: My wife cheated on me.
Myr: Um. Want a hug?
Diseta: *sigh* Sure.

Myr: I don’t know much about your wife, but you’re a handsome, charming woman and you deserve better than that, Diseta.

Can we please have a moment without random teenagers staring?

Meanwhile... if Diseta thinks she just does whatever she wants, maybe Norweni’s going to live up to that. It’s an impulse that Maddan is happy to oblige.

Diseta still has the old house behind the smithy, and no one is currently living in it, so eventually she tucks herself into bed there for a few hours of restless sleep.

She does head home before morning, though. It wouldn’t be fair of her to stay away from the children just because she’s angry.
That’s, uh. Just a really great ending to the round. 🙃

Date: 2025-05-11 11:08 pm (UTC)Norweni is one of the most interesting characters in the town for sure, I'm facinated to learn more about her. (My other fav is Shep, but its like the complete opposite, kinda. She's such a straightforward character, I just smile whenever she shows up, haha)
