Veridia Round 4: Shep
Prev | Next
If you notice anyone missing freckles or scars this round, that would be because I forgot to put back one of my CC folders before starting the round. đ Anyway, youâre never gonna believe this, but I remembered to do the ROS thing Iâve been meaning to do all along for this hood:

That tracks. This ROS is from

Winter has come to Veridia. Itâs a time of settling in, of quiet and rest.

Shep: Ehhhh, cold!
A time of the water in your wash basin being too damn cold.
For individual households, I am trying to remember to use TeaAddictytâs ROS. Iâve removed or edited a few of the events in this one for my personal use since I think it was written for the Medieval Charter Challenge. And Veridia doesnât have things like âchurchâ or âa stigma on having children out of wedlockâ.

Shep rolled a four, so I guess no mysterious meetings in the woods for her. Sooner or later I gotta get Arturo introduced to the rest of the neighborhoodâŚ

Besides, she already knows an annoying werewolf, even if she doesnât know that she knows.

Random wolf: Ignoring me? Unacceptable! *grr*
Elphin: Nânice... doggy?
Shep: Ugh, shoo! Leave him alone!

Shep doesnât have a telescope and I donât feel like buying her one, so she gets to visit community lots instead. I am so good at ROSes. Shep has been listening to tales of the fae from some of Veridiaâs older residents at the mead hall. Thereâs no strange tracks or fairy circles in the outskirts of the woods, though she does find some perfectly normal edible mushrooms.

Fial: You know those are mostly stories grandparents make up to keep us from wandering around unsupervised in the woods, right?
Shep: Sure! But if I met a magical creature that wanted to make me fabulously wealthy, welllll.
Fial: Ha! I think you missed the bit of the tale about not taking bargains from the fae.
Shep: Hey, Iâm not using my firstborn child anyway.

Are the fae also super sexy? Discuss.

Derelei was at the mead hall when Shep got too cold and headed over there. The hall is an even more important meeting place during the winter when itâs so cold and snowy out.

Dereleiâs sister, Brigid, thinks this fairy-hunting plotline is really dumb. Yeah, well, no one asked for your opinion anyway, Brigid. Go fight another teenager or something.

They still donât get on. :â( Shep just wants to be your best friend, Norweni, is that so much to ask?

Now that thereâs less work to do outside, Derelei comes over almost every day to spend the morning or afternoon with Shep. Theyâre very cute, but Shep doesnât seem interested in any more commitment. Theyâre only going steady because Derelei took the initiative and asked her.

Shepâs REAL one true desire? Bathtub.

These two both love dirty jokes, so no wonder they got along once they discovered that.

Shep finally has some money to spare, so I gave in and let her go down to the smithy to buy a bathtub from her friend Diseta. My screenshot program said âNOâ to saving the picture of her actually buying it, alas.

I guess itâs good that Shep lives near the well, since sheâs going to have to haul so many buckets to fill that tub. But it must be nice to have a hot bath by the fire when it snows.

When sheâs not wandering the village, Shep works on her weaving during the day...

...and usually visits the mead hall at night.

Derelei: *sigh*

Gytha is here to drink away thoughts of her new step-mother.
Gytha: The alcohol content in this cider is nowhere near high enough for that.

Even while dormant in winter, the hives need occasional care. Shep loses one hive to starvation, but the other two pull through the season admirably!

Derelei. Derelei, no.

One intensive bath and laundry session later...
Derelei: So... my sister is married now. I wonder when thatâll happen for me.

Shep: Haha, yeah, I canât believe it. I guess she and Wulfric are kinda similar. You should hear Gytha complaining about it.
Derelei: Why canât this woman take a hint?

Near the end of Winter is Yule, a time for eating well and spending time with loved ones. Shep adds her cloak to her usual festival dressâitâs still cold out!

Shep has small gifts for her friends as well, mostly honey and pieces of pottery she made. She loves sharing these things with the people who have welcomed her into Veridia so nicely.

Shep: ...You okay?
Gede: Oh yeah, Iâm cool. Very chill.
I need to find some sort of heat source to start putting on outdoor lots or every single townie is going to be blue by the end of the season.

Derelei isnât at the festival grounds, so she gets her gift later.

Shep even runs down Elmet to give him a plate. Aw, look at Elmet, being almost sorta popular! He does have to skedaddle before the moon finishes rising, though.

And right at the end of the round, Shep gains her silver pottery badge. In the spring, sheâs planning to start selling some of her work, and hopefully also increase her hives. And maybe THIS time weâll finally conquer those wheat fields?
